FLYABYTE - Web applications, online storage, netbooks and much more.

Not sure about your next book to read? BookLamp.org can recommend one for you.

I haven't tried it yet, but the concept is fascinating.

From their website:

BookLamp.org matches readers to books through an analysis of writing styles, similar to the way that Pandora.com matches music lovers to new music. Do you like Stephen King’s It, but thought it was too long? BookLamp allows you to find books with a similar level of tone, tense, perspective, action, description, and dialog - while at the same time allowing you to specify details like... half the length. It’s impervious to outside influences - like advertising - that impact socially driven recommendation systems, and isn’t reliant on a large user base to work. Take a look at the above video to see how we do it in detail.\

With this processing power and screen size, should we still be calling it a netbook?

Another very sleek and functional OS for your netbook. I prefer the gnome environment, but this new KDE version is very interesting for small screens.

Will smartphones of the future eliminate the need for tablets?

Interesting article from Liliputing speculating about the feasibility of smartphones being able to overcome it's small screens limitations. It will eventually happen, but will probably take another five years of complete supremacy for the iPad.

BlackBerry 6: mix of the other top OSes in a dull shell

BlackBerry OS 6 was officially released yesterday, with the launch of the new Torch device.

I'm not sure if this video reflects the latest version of the operating system. However, if this is the case, it looks like the engineers at RIM put webOs, iOS and Android in a mixer and spread a layer of the BlackBerry current OSes on top of what came out of the stir. Although it looks fluid as they claim, it still has a very "corporate" look in my opinion.

I wouldn't bet this is the interface that will turn consumers excited, but at least it puts RIM on par with the other modern OS currently available.

Springpad: finally a strong competitor to Evernote

After the failure of Google Notebook and many other attempts to create useful and easy to use digital notebooks, Evernote was the only robust software that I would recommend. Until now.

Springpad surprised me by its seamless sync capabilities across different platforms and elegant web interface. However, what makes it stand out is the way it lets you organize your stuff in different categories, easily identifiable by icons. Bookmarks, restaurants, wines, and much more can be quickly captured, stored and accessed later in an easy way.

Also, the Android app is very snappy and, unlike Evernote, let's you store data locally. I didn't have the chance to try the iPad and iPhone apps yet.

Jolicloud 1.0 Netbook OS - First impressions

I have used Jolicloud for a few months, but currently I´m very happy with the latest Ubuntu edition on my eee PC. The fact that version 1.0 finally brings an independent UI (not dependent on the Remix launcher), makes me want to try it again. I will probably run it from the pen drive and see if it convinces me to switch back again.
